The people who have started and operated the women's rights movement play a key role in the development of today's politics. They have helped to shape and nourish the growing need for women's rights and equality.
NOW
NOW (National Organization for Women) is an organization founded in 1966 that helps combat political inequality for women. They are trying to get reproductive rights, full economic equality, women in political offices, and the ending of discrimination against women.

LWV
After women got their suffrage, the LWV (League of Women Voters) was formed. This organization was formed so that the woman's vote would be used for the betterment of this country and that the fight for women's suffrage would not go to waste.

CLUW
The Nation Coalition of Labor Union Women(CLUW) works to organize working women to work together for the benefit of union women. It works to increase the amount of women in the workforce and to unify those women.

NACWCThe NACWC (National Association of Colored Women's Clubs) was formed to combat racism and sexism against African American women in the U.S. They work to promote equality, help women and children, and fight racial violence.

One of the most important and well known people in the women's rights movement was a woman named Susan B. Anthony. She was an early leader in the movement and an active abolitionist. She fought for women's suffrage and greatly contributed to the creation of the 19th Amendment. She led marches and was arrested many times. One iconic time that she was arrested was in 1872 for voting. Anthony died before she ever legally voted, but she still contributed greatly to women's gain of suffrage.

Other important women such as Jeanette Rankin, Frances Perkins, and Victoria Woodhull got involved in the fight and became apart of the political system. Jeanette Rankin was the first woman to serve in Congress and led various anti-war attempts. Frances Perkins was the first woman to hold a cabinet office and she worked to end the great depression. The first woman to run for president was Victoria Woodhull, who created a newspaper to help women get their voices heard.

Another important character was Mary Church Terrell, who helped desegregate the women's rights movement and brought attention to issues African American women were facing.

Sojourner Truth was an iconic black woman in the 1800s. She fought to stop slavery and worked for women's suffrage. Her most iconic speech for suffrage is the 'Aint I a Woman' speech where she explains how women could do just as much as men.

Hillary Clinton is a very important woman in U.S politics. She works to gain equal pay for women as well as reproductive rights. She includes these policies in her 2016 election campaign.
